What's on in Harrogate
An Evening with Michael Portillo
Michael Portillo tells his life story on stage at Harrogate Convention Centre on Wednesday 4 November 2026, covering politics, television and his railway journeys. Starts 7.30pm, recommended for ages 14+.
What it is and who goes
An Evening with Michael Portillo is a one-man stage show, billed on the tour as A Life of Two Halves. He talks about growing up as the son of a Spanish refugee, his years in Margaret Thatcher's government, losing his seat, and his second career in television, including the railway journeys. It suits anyone interested in politics, history or travel, and the audience is open to the public rather than a trade crowd.
Dates and opening times
The show is in the Main Auditorium at Harrogate Convention Centre, Kings Road, HG1 5LA, on Wednesday 4 November 2026. It starts at 7.30pm and runs for about 1 hour 50 minutes, including a 20-minute interval. We could not find a published doors time, so check your ticket confirmation for arrival guidance.
For visitors
The tour is promoted by Fane Productions, and Harrogate Theatre sells tickets locally. Harrogate Theatre lists prices of £33 to £62.99. The recommended age is 14+, and anyone under 16 must be accompanied. When we checked, Harrogate Theatre's page showed this date as sold out, while Fane's page still carried a booking link. If you are still looking for tickets, check both and ask about returns. Harrogate Theatre's box office is on 01423 502116. The Convention Centre accepts card and contactless payments only, so leave the cash at home.
Getting there
Harrogate station is about a 10-minute walk from the Convention Centre. LNER runs direct trains to London King's Cross roughly hourly, and Leeds is about 35 minutes away. Leeds Bradford Airport is about 30 minutes by taxi. The Convention Centre says there are over 1,200 parking spaces in the town centre, but these will be busy on a show night, so allow extra time if you drive.
Book early
